June 18 was an unforgettable day for me, who had just moved to Guam from Tokyo. That was when my family held our daughter’s first birthday party with about 100 guests on our lanai and yard overlooking Alupang Cove and a small island. Growing up in Guam at the time, my daughter kept whining and refused to wear a formal dress and shoes for her birthday since she was not used to wearing formal.
On the other hand, my husband rather seemed to be enjoying it. I still remember that he smiled and winked at me saying “this girl is going to be just like you.”
